MUNSTER JUVENILE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS U14 TO U 19

The Munster U14 to U19 Track and Field Championships were held at the Waterford RTC on 13th and 14th June last. Youghal AC had nine athletes in action at these Championships.

On Day one Tirna Cahill competed in the U15 Hammer and did very well achieving a PB OF 34.73m and came 2nd. This was Tirna’s first Munster A Championship medal and also qualified for the All Ireland Championships. Well done Tirna! Lauren O’ Mahoney also competed in her last Juvenile Championships in the U19 Javelin which she won with her best throw of 32.10m. Lauren also came 5th in the Shot 8.50m. Well done Lauren who has featured strongly every year in the Juvenile Munster Championships. Emily O’ Keefe also had a great run in the U18 200m, 23.90 to win the Munster title. Well done Emily!

Liam McCarthy competed in the U16 100m in which he came 9th 12.56 and in the 200m where he came 8th 25.89. The sprints were highly competitive with big fields. Sean Broderick came 6th in the U17 100m in a time of 25.89. Sean featured in the medals in both the 110m hurdles 2nd 15.94 and 3rd in the 300m hurdles 41.76.

Kerrie Barrett competed in the U14 800m and finished in 11th. Kerrie is recovering from injury. In the U15 1500m Jake McCarthy had a very strong run especially in the last 400m where he went from 5th to 3rd. Jake won the bronze medal in a time of 4.42.62. Killian Nolan and Simon Upton both ran in the U16 1500m. Killian finished in 4th 4.36.58 and Simon in 6th 4.48.51. Simon also ran in the 800m the day before coming in 6th place 2.17.08. Killian qualified for the All Ireland 1500m.

It was good for the club to have five athletes qualifying from the Munster Championships for the All Ireland Juvenile Track and Field Championships. Welll done to all athletes who competed as competition was very high. More photos available at www.youghalac.com/photos
