Huge Congratulations to our three Youghal AC athletes, (and the 4 legged legend) and their support crew who travelled to Tralee today to take on the long, hilly 26.2 miles. They all pulled it out of the bag clocking outstanding results.

David Herlihy had a superb race coming in eight overall in a time of 3:02:27. 500km in May, Wicklow eco trail 80km, Ironman, Marathons….. no challenge too big for this man. What’s next?

Our chairperson Deirdre Ansbro made the trip to Tralee worthwhile bagging second female in an outstanding time of 3:23:03 and 17th place overall.

Donal Sheahan toed the line with his trusted companion Cody and his hard work over the last few months has paid off with a time of 4:16:25. (We hope Cody get a medal too, he certainly earned it)

Weekend Update 10th March ‘24

After the long-distance stuff yesterday in Tralee from our 3 marathoners, it was a busy Sunday of action closer to home today.

Well done to the 34 Youghal AC athletes who made the short journey to Killeagh for the 4-mile road race. Conditions were pretty much ideal for the race with mild dry weather and there was a total of 175 finishers. There were some fabulous performances on the day including 1st MJ for Jude Buckley, 1st F40 for Susan Dineen and 1st F45 for Mary Cotter. A special mention to Ciara O’ Connell, a recent graduate of the Couch to 5K progamme and Micheal O’ Cathain on their first race in the green and white singlets. Also, a ‘Special’ shout-out to Ian Murphy who won the race for athletes wearing their singlets backwards – fair play Ian for giving us all a good laugh and being a good sport Results in the photos…

A little further afield, Keith Kelly toed the line at the Banteer 5-mile road race putting in a stellar performance coming 7th overall and second M45 in a field of 342 runners in a time of 26:59.

Junior athletes and twin brothers Fionn and Brogan McCarthy made the journey to Nenagh this morning to take part in the Munster Indoors. The two lads put in great performances in the Boys U11 Long Jump, 60m and 600m – great preparation for the upcoming East Corks in the weeks ahead

Well done also to our members who took part in ParkRun #102 at Pobalscoil Na Trionoide, and to those out doing their weekend runs. Keep up the good work

Torc Mountain 8k IMRA

"It's all down hill apart from the uphill" were the words of wisdom from the race director prior to the bell ringing for the start of round 6 of the Coillte Winter/Spring league. Beautiful Torc Mountain was the venue for the 8k IMRA trail race on a technical challenging course. An uphill start on fire road for 800m before a drop of 2k through the woods, twisting, turning and winding through the trees ankle deep in mud with the occasional stream to clean the shoes. It's great fun until you turn to go back up. The usual suspects of Eddie Celia and David tackled the slippery slopes before reaching the fireroad again for a long drag to  the last 1k of fast downhill through the woods again and a sharp descent to the finish.

March 31, 2024 (Weekend Update)

Youghal AC athletes were representing at home and internationally this weekend.

Keith Kelly and Donal Sheahan took part in the Streets Of Killarney 5 mile road race where Keith once again had a podium finish coming 2nd M40 in a time of 26:57 and Donal who is a regular at races representing the club had a fantastic run finishing in 38:16.

Well done to Keith also for dusting himself down this morning in Killarney Parkrun coming 3rd overall. Keith was joined at parkrun with father and daughter duo Noel and Trisha. The Curtins were busy this weekend.

Over in Germany, Fearghal Curtin smashed the Paderborn 10km coming in 3rd place in a time of 28:23. Great running Fearghal and hope to see you back in Youghal come the 11th of August.

Add

More action from lots of Youghal AC athletes this weekend.

First up was Mary Flynn who ran the Valentia Island Hardman Half Marathon in tough windy conditions but still managed a PB in a time of 1:42:39.

Next up was the Aglish 5km fun run in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital. There was a small army of green and white hoops around the course which was fantastic to see especially with it being for a good cause. Special mention to or juvenile athletes Emma, Kate, Chloe and her brother James who put the adults to shame. Great running everyone
