Youghal Athletic Club Latest News
10th August 2025; Youghal Bay 10km & Half Marathon
We are four days post-race, and the buzz of the Youghal Bay 10km & Half Marathon still circles the town – what a day we had. We’ve thanked our visiting runners, we’ve thanked our volunteers, we’ve thanked our sponsors, and we’ve thanked our local supporters and people of Youghal to whom we are so so so grateful. Now it’s time for a runner appreciation post!!
Thank you and well done to our 63 members who donned their Youghal AC singlets and ran the streets of town to great applause. 32 in the 10km and 31 in the Half Marathon, who put in all the training required to give their best on the day.
A special shout out to the following members who won category prizes:
10km – Izabella Chidlow 1st JF and Mary O’ Mahony 2nd F60
½ Marathon – Mary Flynn 2nd F50 and Sorcha Kilgannon 2nd JF
Well done to our newer members who raced in Youghal AC colours for the very first time, and to those who achieved their PB’s, longest runs and to those who were pacers . And, thank you to our PRO Zara Kelly who took part in both races, acting as tail runner in the 10km race at 9:30 before getting on her bike and doing tail biker/ runner in the half marathon at 11:45 – almost 6hrs of racing
There were many non-affiliated runners from Youghal and the surrounding areas who also took part yesterday and massive well done to you all, whether it was your first event, or you are a veteran. We hope to see you again soon and feel free to pop up to Tower Park in the coming weeks and join us for a run session.
Lastly, it takes a village to put on a race like this, but a special mention to Race Director Sean Ahern for his vision to bring a race of this magnitude to our town and to Chairperson Dee Ansbro for all her hard work ensuring the event ran as smoothly as it did

Thanks to our sponsors.Â
EirGrid, Youghal Credit Union, Brookes SuperValu Youghal and Hennessy's Bar who supplied us with the water at the finish line.
We are so grateful for the support of our sponsors as again without them, events like this just could not happen. These local businesses jumped on board and helped us without hesitation. #supportlocal
Thank You Volunteers.............!!!!!
As the dust settles on an incredible event here in Youghal, we are all reflecting on what an amazing day it was yesterday.
Before we post about the event itself, we would like to highlight our fabulous volunteers. So many locals put their hands up to help out from our stewards, marshals, car park attendants, those setting up the course, those on water stations, those on registration…. we could go on forever. Thank you all for your time and for doing such a great job.
A special mention to our juvenile athletes who were absolutely brilliant. See below a message we received
Hi, I hope this message reaches ALL the Parents and Guardians of All the Kids that helped out at the Finish Line…
They were ALL Absolutely Fantastic!!! Everyone was willing to help, they sorted out jobs between themselves, and most importantly congratulated everyone that came across the Finish Line!!!
A credit to you all…
A message from one of our sponsors EirGridÂ
EirGrid was delighted to sponsor the Youghal Athletic Club Half Marathon and 10km
last weekend
Speaking about the event, our Head of Public Engagement, Sinead Dooley said:
“EirGrid is proud to support the Youghal Athletics Club 10km and half marathon event and the work the committee continues to do in bringing an inclusive, regional athletics to the area.
Communities are at the heart of grid development, enabling the transitioning of Ireland’s electricity grid to a cleaner energy future. Local organisations like Youghal Athletic Club play a vital role in fostering growth and resilience for their communities and only by working together can we create opportunities, advance local development, and power positive change for the future.”
Well done to all those that took part in the race and thank you to the organisers for their hard work and dedication
